Excursions and hiking in Asturias

We propose some of the best known walking routes through Asturias and others less famous, but equally interesting, so that you can enjoy the nature that the Principality of Asturias offers. They are walking routes to do with children, easy routes ... but we do not recommend the longer ones for the little ones because of the distance to travel.

Route or Senda del Oso

It is an ideal route for lovers of hiking and cyclists. Its great natural and ethnographic wealth advances through tunnels and bridges that give a touch of adventure to the march. The stretch of 22 kilometers that goes from Tuñón to Entrago, always passes through paved terrain, with a protective fence, frequent sources for supplies and informative posters about the flora and fauna, the monuments of the area, alternative routes or advice.

Ardisana route. The Camín encantau

The Camin Encantau, which runs through beautiful landscapes of the Ardisana Valley, in Llanes, is a magical route, where wood carvings with the characters of Asturian mythology are confused in the dense forests, playing hide-and-seek, and surprise us in the road with a unique bearing. It is an ideal route for the whole family, where children enjoy doubly, and that does not entail great differences or risks of any kind, a magnificent opportunity to get into the most autochthonous nature.

Ruta del Cares

The path that runs through the Cares River gorge is the most spectacular and well-known hiking route in the Principality of Asturias. Without a doubt, it is the most visited of all the Picos de Europa. With some sneakers or light boots and a backpack that has the essentials (including a raincoat, just in case), the route can be undertaken on any date between the months of May to October.

Route the Path of the Archdeacon

Among the many Roman roads, or royal roads, that crossed Asturias and communicated this region with Leon lands, highlights the so-called Senda del Arcediano, which links the region of Cangas de Onís with that of Riaño. A classic route of passage of travelers and transfer of merchandise that lasted several centuries; for it ran a good part of the products of eastern Asturias that were taken to sell to the plateau. It will take us to cross it between 4 and 5 hours, with some unevenness of some 700 meters of ascent and some 600 of descent. It is typified as a long route (GR 201) and the route is fixed by red and white markings that indicate the path at all times.

The Asturian king Alfonso II in the year 829 inaugurated the oldest Jacobean route that is known. The Primitive Way has 154 km of route; there are other possibilities: the eastern coastal route totals 128 km and the western coastal route reaches 155 km. In any version it is highly recommended for the landscape and the peasantry.
