At the end of a small road that coils like an Asturian snake on the slope of a meadow, suddenly appears, The surprise: Torimbia beachIt's not that you arrive, it's that the beach awaits you. The last curve of the road opens up as if someone had drawn back a curtain, and there it is, with its pale sand in the shape of a perfect crescent, its blue water like a postcard from another hemisphere, and the green carpet of the mountain plummeting down to kiss the shore. There's no asphalt here by the water. No showers. No umbrellas for rent. Torimbia is free.

Torimbia is in the council of Llanes, just 15 kilometers west of the town of Llanisca, near the small and charming village of Niembro. It belongs to the parish of Barro and is part of the Protected Landscape of the Eastern Coast of Asturias, which guarantees that, here, cement does not rule. For many reasons, it is in our ranking of best beaches in Asturias.

Measuring about 500 meters long and 100 meters wide at low tide, its shell-like shape protects it from the north wind and gives it natural acoustics where even the sound of the waves seems deeper. The sand is fine and white, and the slope is gentle., which makes it ideal for long swims... and if the tide is low, even for naps with your feet soaking. The water, however, is Asturian: clear and pure, but with character—no tropical swims at all.

Naturism on Torimbia Beach

Torimbia has been, since the 60s, one of the leading figures of naturism in northern SpainBut like everything in Asturias, it is done naturally: Here nudism coexists with swimsuits without conflict., with that tolerant, yet sarcastic spirit so typical of eastern Asturias. There's room for everyone. However, there are no extra services: no showers or wastebaskets. Which isn't a flaw, but a virtue. The maxim applies here: what goes up, comes down.

Why is it worth it? Because there is no beach like it in all of Asturias.. Because it is neither in the city nor near any shopping mall. Because It is a natural amphitheater Where you can lie down and watch the sun, before falling asleep in the sea, caress everything with a light that isn't sold on Instagram. Because there, you feel outside of time, as if civilization were a distant rumor. And because when you emerge, with the salt still on your skin and your hair like a happy witch's broom, you can round off the day with a cider in Niembro or Barro, and think, as a wise writer once said, that happiness is nothing more than an Asturian sunset in good company.

How to get to Torimbia Beach

Patience and enthusiasm. The route starts in Niembro, a village with a church, a cemetery, and a river—all worthy of a costumbrista painting. From there You can drive up to the Torimbia viewpoint., where there is a small parking lot. From the parking lot, tap walk about 10 minutes along a winding dirt track among ferns, brambles, and cows that watch you as if evaluating your ability to deserve paradise.

The most energetic park in Niembro and hike up: about 25 minutes uphill, sweating a little but earning the reward. And if you arrive early or during the off-season, you might find the beach completely empty. No joke.

GPS coordinates: 43.4286° N, 4.8675° W

Tips for your visit

1/ Good footwear, especially if you're walking. The path is dirt and can be slippery in the rain.
2/ No shade: cap, sunscreen and water.
3/ Take everything you bring with you (trash included).
4/ Ideal for watching the sunset (although returning in the dark requires a flashlight or charged mobile phone).
5/ If you're feeling brave, visit the village of Niembro, with its church and cemetery overlooking the estuary: it looks like a set from a romantic movie... or a scary one, depending on the light.
