The Picos de Europa National Park shares three autonomous communities: the Principality of Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla León. There are many places in it that are worth visiting, and in this report we are going to focus on the towns that in our opinion offer more scenic beauty.

1 Asiegu
2 Sotres
3 Bulnes
4 Camarmena
5 Tielve
6 Potes, Camaleño and Espinama

Asiegu

This Cabraliega village was visited by the Kings and the Infantas Leonor and Sofía in 2019, to present them with the "Exemplary Town of Asturias" award that the Princess of Asturias Foundation awards each year. Small town that lives on livestock -with the milk of its cows they make Cabrales cheese- and tourism. It has one of the most beautiful viewpoints to the Naranjo de Bulnes -Picu Urriellu-.

Sotres

It is one of the highest towns in the Principality located at 1.050 m. above sea level. To get closer from the town of Arenas de Cabrales we will have to drive along the road that goes to Poncebos, where the well-known Ruta del Cares begins. From this point to Sotres you have to go 11 kilometers of hard ascent on a mountain road. From here, several routes that are well known to hiking enthusiasts depart.

Bulnes

Bulnes is a lost village in the mountains of Cabrales which until 2001, before the funicular was inaugurated, could only be reached on foot along a winding path. Narrow streets and small stone houses, its river and its bridge ... a charming town where to escape from daily stress. You can also visit its austere cemetery where "El Cuco" rests, first dead on the walls of Picu Urriellu or Naranjo de Bulnes on September 2, 1928. "I had a very bad night because of the cold," he wrote in a note before the fatal outcome, "but looking at the stars," he added with the hope of reaching eternity.

Camarmena

At about 430 meters of altitude it has its stone constructions literally anchored to the rock, suspended in many cases over the abyss. The climb up a dizzying road is worth it to enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the houses of Bulnes and Picu Urriellu. Today it has 11 inhabitants.

Tielve

The Cabrales cheese that Tielve makes is one of the tastiest, with centuries of tradition and a good number of national and international awards. Livestock life prevails, but it is also a tranquil tourism hub with a good number of rural houses available to the traveler.

Beautiful towns in Cantabria: Potes, Camaleño and Espinama

Potes is the capital of the Liébana region. Its old town is an Asset of Cultural Interest, with the category of Historic Site since 1983, in which the Torre del Infantado stands out and numerous buildings of interest concentrated in neighborhoods such as La Solana or El Sol.
Through Potes and the town of Camaleño passes the Lebaniega Route, which links the Camino de Santiago de la Costa with the Camino Frances, it should be noted that Camaleño is home to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery, one of the five holy places of Christendom. From Spinama there is already evidence in the XNUMXth century of the town's existence.

In short, three locations close to each other that are worth a visit.
