·1· Graciela Iturbide: Spain and Mexico. Exhibition
173 photographs by Graciela Iturbide, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts winner, selected by the artist herself, will be on display in an exhibition where the common thread is Spain and Mexico: some of her most iconic Mexican works will be complemented and intertwine with previously unpublished photographs taken by the artist in Spain.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Sánchez del Río Cannon Warehouse.
·2· Rara Avis
Rara avis is an immersive audiovisual installation conceived as a tribute to the work of Graciela Iturbide, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts winner. In it, artist Aníbal Santaella evokes the symbolic universe of birds, a fundamental motif in the award winner's work, for whom birds represent freedom and independence.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Waste Warehouse.
3. "Prizes for works." Collective creation workshops
An exhibition space showcasing works created in collective creation workshops held with various social groups as a tribute to Graciela Iturbide, Byung-Chul Han, Douglas Massey, and the National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico, recipients of the Princess of Asturias Awards for the Arts, Communication and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Concord, respectively.
·4· Masks, people, and ghosts. Art installation
The Princess of Asturias Foundation, in collaboration with the Pablo de Lillo Studio, has conducted workshops with children in which they created masks inspired by or related to works from the Museum of Anthropology of Mexico, winner of the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord. The results of this work can be seen in this installation.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Commercial Warehouse.
·5· Altar of Longings. Art installation
The "Altar of Longings" workshop, coordinated by artist Toño Velasco, invites migrants to create a collective altar inspired by Mexican retablos: votive paintings with which migrants expressed gratitude for miracles and the overcoming of difficulties on their journey to the United States. The previous workshops that led to this installation sought to have participants capture their dreams and desires in paintings, reflecting their experiences and hopes. The activity and the work are based on the work of sociologist Douglas Massey, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award Winner for Social Sciences, on the votive offerings of Mexican migrants in the United States.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Commercial Warehouse.
·6· Slow down, woolly hands. Art installation
Artist Irene Trapote led a collaborative project that resulted in a large piece of wool from Asturian Xalda sheep. This activity is based on the idea of recovering traditional practices as an escape from contemporary dynamics of accelerated and productive work, linked to the concepts explored in the philosophical thought of Byung-Chul Han, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award Winner for Communication and Humanities.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Commercial Warehouse.
·7· I will plant birds. Art installation
A group of artists with functional and/or psychosocial disabilities, members of the Colectivo Berde, performed an intervention on a photograph by Graciela Iturbide. The works comprise this collective work, a collage-like structure. The art workshop took place at the La Vega Weapons Factory on September 27.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Commercial Warehouse.
·8· The Rest Society. A Space for Contemplative Reflection
In the thinking of Byung-Chul Han, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award Winner for Communication and Humanities, reflection and rest are essential to recovering the depth lost in a society obsessed with productivity. As in tending a garden, only through silence and pause can human beings rediscover themselves and open up space for a more authentic and empathetic relationship with others. This space will also feature activities related to essential aspects of the laureate's work.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Workshop Building.
·9· Karaoke Gran Sugrañes
The "Karaoke Gran Sugrañes" is an exhibition space dedicated to Eduardo Mendoza, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award Winner for Literature. Inspired by the restaurant dreamed of by the unforgettable characters in his popular novel Sin noticias de Gurb, with touches of other establishments described in his books, it will also serve as a space to host activities related to the laureate's career.
Date: Thursday, October 16th to Saturday, October 25th.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory. Foundry Building.
·10· Books like churros. Bookstore-churrería
Inspired by the places featured in his novels, where everyday life and humor coexist with literature, this installation will offer the opportunity to enjoy reading the works of Eduardo Mendoza, 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature, and other laureates, as well as to share moments around a traditional churro. It will also serve as a space for other activities related to the award winner.
Date: Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October.
Location: La Vega Weapons Factory.
