With its fine golden sand, it is surrounded by gentle cliffs and forests, with carved rocks that seem to emerge from the sand like intentional silhouettes, the most striking and emblematic being the Peña del Caballar , a natural statue in the center of the beach.

The high-quality waters of this beach, its soft sand, and its beach services give it a prestigious status; awarded the European Community's Blue Flag since the 80s , it can boast of being one of the first to obtain this distinction and to have maintained it consistently for two decades. Among its services, one of the most representative recreational areas on the Asturian coast stands out, as its location in close contact with nature and right on the beach makes it a unique place for leisure, with a high level of facilities and a diverse range of accommodation options.

It's ideal for water sports like diving and surfing, and even for anchoring recreational boats, as it's a very sheltered beach. Besides swimmers, it's a popular spot for anglers who come year-round in search of sea bass, white seabream, gilthead seabream, turbot, mullet, wrasse, or blackspot seabream.

In summer it is very popular due to its good access, either from the town of Muros or from El Pitu (Cudillero); despite this, the western area is always quiet and solitary and nudism is commonly practiced there.

Aguilar beach also boasts an ancient legend , for nearby, on the popular Mount Castiellu, in one of its caves lives an Asturian fairy, a Xana , one of the most frequently mentioned in Asturian mythology. This particular Xana is under a spell. Her parents cast the spell on her for committing a grave offense. The enchantment can only be broken if a brave knight carries her down from her cave to the beach, without stopping along the way and without letting her fall. The knight who does this will gain great riches, and the Xana will give him a treasure hidden in a spotted ox hide. So far, no one has been able to break the spell.

And indeed, charm abounds along this stretch of coast, not only in the mundane sunbathing and swimming, nor in the xana (water nymph) that watches over the bathers, but also in the renowned Senda de los Miradores (Path of the Viewpoints): one of the most beautiful walks one can take on the Cantabrian coast. Slowly but surely, this is how one must approach this approximately 5-kilometer route if one wishes to appreciate the spectacular landscape it offers. We begin our walk on the beach itself, connected to the adjacent Xilo beach by a long staircase. From here, visitors can enjoy various rest areas and viewpoints such as Los Glayos, Miradoiro, and Alto Las Llanas. Along the path, paved with cobblestones, we find several fountains where we can refill our drinking water, bridges that allow us to cross small streams, impressive cliffs like La Cazonera, as well as a lush forest, Reborio. The route leads to the Hermitage of the Holy Spirit where there is another excellent viewpoint; from there, by simply descending about four hundred steps, we arrive at San Esteban de Pravia , at the mouth of the Nalón River.
