The Asturian coastline, better known as the Green Coast , stretches for over 472 kilometers , 272 of which are beaches. From early June to late October, coinciding with the best sea conditions, renting a jet ski in Asturias is increasingly popular.
What route to do on a jet ski through Asturias?
There are several options depending on the stretch of coastline: eastern, central, or western coast. They also depend on the type of excursion: routes along beaches, estuaries or rivers, and cliffs. The towns where these guided tours have become most established are: Gijón (around its beaches), Villaviciosa (on the beach and estuary), Ribadesella (on its famous Dinosaur Coast), and Llanes (routes along cliffs, coves, and ancient hill forts).
We're talking about marine itineraries and rugged landscapes impossible to see any other way . The versatility of jet skis allows us to access incredible spots and gives us a unique perspective of this coastal scenery; something that will leave us completely captivated. It's not just about feeling the speed, making turns on the water, navigating the waves, and getting an adrenaline rush, but about experiencing firsthand natural monuments, inaccessible cliffs, sea caves, coves, secluded beaches, fishing villages, Jurassic sites, estuaries, and natural river mouths.
The landscape is completely different from any coastal area, such as the Mediterranean. Here, the mountains seem to rise directly from the sea . From our position on the water, the topography of this land is overwhelming. In eastern Asturias, for example, the terrain reaches altitudes of over 2000 meters in the Picos de Europa and descends to sea level in less than 90 kilometers , forming a narrow coastal strip between the sea and the mountain range known in Asturias as "La Marina ." From our single or tandem jet ski, there are places along our route parallel to this coastline from which we can glimpse the highest mountains as a backdrop. It's no wonder that since ancient times, sailors have used the peaks of this area as beacons indicating the proximity of certain ports or fishing grounds.

Rent a jet ski in Asturias
The Asturian coast is an extraordinary setting for water adventures for the general public (not just the intrepid). Active tourism companies will ensure that days unsuitable for the activity, such as poor sea conditions or low visibility, are not included. When the activity is possible, these companies guarantee that we will be well-equipped and accompanied at all times by professional instructors . The starting point for the activity is usually well-equipped docks and water clubs in coastal towns and cities with a long nautical tradition. The facilities include changing rooms for donning the necessary wetsuit. Access to the dock is then via a ramp near the boarding area.
No prior experience operating jet skis or any additional qualifications are necessary . These are scheduled outings where a certified instructor introduces you to the operation of the jet ski, showing you the area you will be visiting and the safety rules to keep in mind.
Participants must stay with the instructor at all times during the route . Each jet ski may carry the driver and one passenger, both of whom must wear a life jacket , which is mandatory. Coastal excursions must maintain the legally required two-mile safety distance. Speed limits have been imposed by port authorities when entering and leaving the port .
The minimum age to operate jet skis is 16 years old . This is established in Royal Decree 259/2002. Children over 12 years old can ride on a jet ski but cannot operate it and must be accompanied by an adult.
All the motorcycles are equipped with a safety device called a "man overboard" switch. In the event of a fall, the motorcycle circles and stops automatically. They also feature a wide platform for easy mounting and dismounting.
The motorcycles are state-of-the-art , featuring stabilizers and self-sliding footrests; in addition, the steering system reduces speed in certain maneuvers.
Warning: This activity is not recommended for people with back problems, pregnant women, or those with heart conditions or other serious illnesses.
How to handle a jet ski well?
Some practical tips:
1· Get on the bike and take your time to familiarize yourself with it.
2· Accelerate smoothly and progressively to control the motorcycle safely.
3· Keep a safe distance from the rest of the motorcycles.
4 · When the sea is calm, the best position is to sit. However, in certain waves it is better to stand up to better control the direction.
5 · To brake, simply go by releasing the accelerator.
