Organic farming emerged in Europe many years ago as an alternative to an increasingly intensive agriculture dependent on agrochemicals. In 1996 the Council of Ecological Agrarian Production of the Principality of Asturias was created COPAE as the body in charge of carrying out the official control of organic production and keeping the register of operators.
