Along the 35 kilometers of coastline of Llanes, an unusual density of villages awaits, and a sandy routine with coves statistically likely every thousand meters.

More than thirty beaches can be found on the Llanisco coastline. Each one with its own idiosyncrasy, on a coast where the sea battles daily with cliffs and other large limestone formations that dot the coves and large sandy beaches of the municipality with enormous beauty.

In coves such as Buelna, in the easternmost corner of the Llanisca coast, or "Gulpiyuri", near the central village of Naves, the sea is almost a mistake. The latter has been declared a natural monument. If the swimmer comes at low tide, he will find only a trail of sand surrounded by rocks. But the tide rises and through the cracks of its natural enclosure it stealthily enters the water until it turns the sand into an exotic pool in the middle of the meadow.

The length of the beaches varies from 20 meters at Villanueva beach to 1200 meters at San Antolín . The vast majority can be strictly called coves, and do not exceed 150 meters in length, although we also find larger ones, such as Vidiago at 200 meters, Toró: 220, Andrín: 240, Barro: 250 (one of the busiest in summer), Toranda (European Blue Flag): 300, Ballota: 350, Cue: 380, Palombina: 300, Borizu: 400, Torimbia (for nudists, of extraordinary beauty): 500, El Portiello de San Martín: 750.

Although it may seem obvious at this point, the sand on these beaches is white, in some cases dazzling white, and very fine where the sea has pounded it the most. Bathing conditions are generally calm during the summer season, although this isn't always the case except in the most secluded coves. Most beaches, especially those with high or medium occupancy, have lifeguards and surveillance personnel.

Accessibility is almost always good . Half of them are accessible by car, while reaching the other half requires a bit of walking. In some extreme cases, access is somewhat difficult or circuitous, though these are few and far between.

At the opposite end of the spectrum from the most secluded and hidden beaches are a dozen or so beaches that, due to their proximity to the town center of the municipality's capital, or to nearby towns with a long tourist tradition, such as Celorio, Niembro, and Poo , enjoy a wonderful atmosphere during the summer season. The beach in Poo is excellent for young children, as at high tide it resembles an infinity pool more than a stretch of the Cantabrian Sea.
