It's a windy beach with moderate waves, making it ideal for both sports. There's a designated area for catching waves on the right side, just below the cliff overlooking the Church of San Lorenzo. While this area has dangerous currents for swimming , it's perfect for surfers. Windsurfing, paddleboarding, and sport fishing are also popular activities in its waters.

However, the greatest attraction of this large beach, 600 meters long and covering approximately 300.000 square meters, is undoubtedly its rich ecosystem . Among its faunal treasures, the regular presence of animal species included in the protected catalog of Asturian fauna stands out, such as the European Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus), the European Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis), and the European Otter (Lutra lutra). Finally, but no less importantly, the unique geological formations are also noteworthy.
For all these reasons, we speak of a Natural Monument with its own name : Peñarronda Beach, which stretches from Las Meninas, east of Punta del Corno, to Punta de A Robaleira, which closes off the beach to the east. The whole area is shaped like a shell , and practically in the center, dominating this place like an unwavering sentinel, stands El Castelo , a circular crag pierced by a tunnel. The beach takes its name from this large rock: "round crag."

To get to Peñarronda and taking Tapia de Casariego as a reference, follow the N-634 towards the Puente de los Santos; When you get to the path of direction towards Vegadeo, shortly before the bridge, you can turn right onto a non-signposted second-order road, which leads directly to the beach, or make the change of direction towards Vegadeo, continuing along the N -640 for, a few meters later, deviate to the right and link with the previous way.
