Cometero and pilots come from all over Spain. During the weekend you can enjoy the pirouettes in the air of all kinds of kites: static, acrobatic, revolution and traction with the modalities of kitebuggy, kitemountain, kitesurft, blokart, carriages ... piloted by eaters of all ages. On Saturday the program begins with the reception and delivery of accreditations to those registered and the family construction of the «Wind Garden», with grinders and colored strips everywhere. From this moment on everything waves better, the wind becomes visible and multicolored and a few hours of free flight begin.
They are very busy days in which the fans put their skills to the test in different competitions and in which the children have a hard time. A unique opportunity for the whole family to participate, sharing experiences and interests in the open air, preparing and manufacturing their own kites in workshops organized on the beach. Also, in the immediate environment there is parking, chiringuito, hygienic services, recreational area and playground. That is why it is best to come in the morning, with the food ready, ready to spend several hours of continuous entertainment. Perhaps the most special day to enjoy with the little ones is Sunday, as there are a lot of activities for them: kite workshops, parachutists and trinket throwing from messengers, playful recycling workshops ...
But this event has many other things reserved for the adult public, such as aerial photography experiences, car sail championships, skill tests, team synchronized flights, precision flight, night flight ... La Espasa does not usually run out of air, so the competitive show is guaranteed, with dozens of impressive kites, difficult to manage, that are only able to tame the most seasoned pilots.
For more than a decade, the Sierpe Cultural Sports Association organizes this great festival of kites that includes, for those registered, an authentic Asturian espicha on the beach.
The occasion is unique to know the beautiful county of Sueve. You can enjoy the coastal path that goes from the Arenal de Morís to the Playa de la Griega in Colunga or from different spectacular hiking trails in the Sierra del Sueve, at the foot of which the Espasa extends.
How do we get to the beach of Espasa?
To reach Espasa beach from Oviedo, towards Santander, take the A-8 motorway and take the "Caravia / Colunga / Coceña" exit (exit 337). Here we go to the N-632 towards Ribadesella. As soon as you pass the town of La Isla you arrive at La Espasa beach. If you are coming from Santander, towards Oviedo, you can take the “Caravia / Berbes” exit (330 exit) and continue on the N-632 towards Colunga.
