The Gijón International Film Festival 2025, the FICX, already has an Official Section. It will take place from November 14 to 22.
Cinema face to face. This is how the Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival will become an ideal meeting place for audiences and filmmakers, where the city will also take center stage. The Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival will once again focus on quality, daring, and innovative cinema.
The main section of the festival will feature a prominent Spanish presence. To the one already announced Emergency Exit by Lluís Miñarro (a surreal, ensemble-based road movie where fourteen travelers trapped in an uncertain vehicle traverse unreal landscapes while confronting their own identity) are joined by four eagerly awaited new releases. Among them is The second feature film by Alicante filmmaker Javier Marco, A la cara, a production of Pecado Films, LaCima Producciones, Odessa Films, Langosta Films and Biograf Capital AIE, which will be presented as a world premiere at FICX.
The film expands on the original premise of the short film of the same name, for which Marco won a Goya Award in 2020: a famous journalist goes to the home of one of her haters to confront him about what he wrote about her on social media. From there, the film becomes a poignant study of human relationships, underpinned by excellent performances from Sonia Almarcha and Manolo Solo, with a superb Roberto Álamo also in the cast. Javier Marco's debut feature (Josefina) had its world premiere in the New Directors section of the San Sebastián Film Festival and was nominated for Goya Awards for Best New Director, Best Actress (Emma Suárez), and Best Editing.
