Argentine cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, better known by his pen name Quino, passed away in 2020. His death has saddened millions of fans worldwide. He was especially beloved in Asturias ever since the Mafalda statue was placed in Oviedo's most popular and visited park in 2014. This sculpture joins the Woody Allen statue on a nearby street, which has become a city icon since its unveiling in 2003, and these two are currently the most sought-after photo opportunities for tourists visiting the Asturian capital.
