The Department of Development, Local Cooperation and Fire Prevention launches the New transport plan for the Covadonga Lakes 2026 to facilitate access to the Covadonga Lakes.

Dates of access by bus 2026

Access to the Lakes of Covadonga is regulated on peak dates, there being Restrictions on the use of private vehicles. On these dates there is a public transport service. During the year 2026, the regulated periods are the following:

  • From March 28 to 31.
  • From April 1st to 12th, 18th and 19th, and from April 25th to 30th.
  • May 1st. Weekends (2nd and 3rd; 9th and 10th; 16th and 17th; 23rd and 24th; 30th and 31st) of May.
  • From June 1 to October 18 (except June 6; afternoon of July 24; July 25; September 8).
  • October 24, 25 and 31.
  • November 1st and 2nd (All Saints' Day).
  • 1 8 to the December.During the regulated period, the access road to the Lakes will remain closed to traffic from 00:00 to 24:00., and may only be used by authorized vehicles.

Where do the buses to the Covadonga Lakes leave from?

The departure of the buses to the Lakes will take place from five parking lots, one in Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís and the other 4 on the route between Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís and Cuadonga/Covadonga. The parking fee is the same in all of them: €2. And all of them have a bus stop. On very busy days, The availability of places cannot be guaranteed. Access to Covadonga by bus from Cangas de Onís

Although private vehicles are authorized to access the Royal Site of Covadonga, It is recommended to use public transport to access both enclaves.

In addition, and while the transportation plan is active, it is possible to access Cuadonga/Covadonga using the shuttle service leaving from Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís. ·3· Only small pets such as dogs, cats and ferrets weighing less than 10 kg will be admitted.
·4· The animal will travel in a cage, rigid carrier or other closed, rigid and waterproof element provided by the traveler.
·5· The animal must be older than 12 weeks, be identified with a microchip, duly documented (Individual Animal Identity System -SIIA-, Updated Health Card), dewormed externally and internally and vaccinated according to the regulations of origin and destination of transport .
·6· Pregnant females or those with only one week after giving birth are not admitted.
·7· The animal will be able to move on its own and will not have injuries.
·8· On the day of the trip, arrive 15 minutes before departure to personally deposit the rigid carrier on the bus.
·9· Assistance dogs can travel inside the bus, with passengers, at no additional cost. They must be documented.
·10· The transport of animals on international routes is not permitted.
·11· For safety reasons we DO NOT recommend traveling with pets on dates and times when the ambient temperature is higher than 25ºC.
·12· The boarding and disembarkation of the animal will be carried out by its owner, ensuring that there are no people in the vicinity, in order to avoid uncomfortable or dangerous circumstances that could affect the rest of the travelers.
· According to the provisions of the law, the transport of pets will be free as long as the journeys run entirely through the territory of the Principality of Asturias.

* Assistance dogs
·1· Assistance dogs accompanying travelers can travel inside the bus/coach at no cost.
·2· Assistance dogs travel on board and must sit on the floor, at the passenger's feet.
·3· It is mandatory that the assistance dog has its leash and all its necessary documentation for the trip.

In the national park, animals cannot be loose.

Can I access the Covadonga Lakes by bike?

Yes, traffic restrictions only affect motor vehicles.

Can I access the Covadonga Lakes in a private vehicle if I have reduced mobility?

Yes, vehicles that have duly accredited this condition will be able to access the lake road Presenting the vehicle's parking card at the Covadonga barrier, as long as they are not motorhomes or vehicles over 5 metres long (in this case they will not be able to access the CO-4 road while the restrictions are in force, even if they have proven reduced mobility).
