The 44th Afuega'l Pitu PDO Cheese Competition is here! Sunday, January 18th, starting at 11:00 AM in La Foz de Morcín.
The competition's presentation takes place each year in one of the municipalities belonging to the PDO. This year, 2026, it will be on Tuesday, January 13th at 5:00 PM at Valdés Salas Castle in Salas. We hope to see you there!

At 12:30 pm, Margarita Mier will give a demonstration of how this unique Asturian cheese is made and At 13 p.m., the director of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, Teresa Sanjurjo, will read the opening address of the competition..

This cheese from the year 2004 enjoys the Protected Designation of Origin.
The Afuega'l Pitu is unique, It is named in Asturian and does not support an exact translation or a clear etymology. It is made mainly with pasteurized Friesian cow's milk in the central-western area of Asturias. It is produced all year round, mainly in winter and spring.
