We're announcing the date for the 2026 Casín Cheese Competition: Saturday, August 29th, marking its 36th edition . The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. outside the Redes Natural Park Interpretation Center and at the El Campu Livestock Market. Attendees will be able to sample and purchase cheese from the three participating producers : Quesería Redes from El Campo, La Corte from Tanes, and Ca Llechi from Piloña.
· Aitana Castaño, journalist and writer, she will be the town crier of the XXXVI Casín Cheese Competition.
· Maruja Óvana He is honored by being posthumously awarded the Quesu Casín DOP d'Oru Award 2026.
Born in El Tozu and raised in La Marea, Maruja dedicated a good part of her life to Casa Maruja, that bar-shop that for decades was a must-stop for those looking for good food, conversation and that taste of the old Asturias.
