At each step, new formations that the water has shaped unhurriedly for thousands of years: stalactites, stalagmites, flags, gours, columns, lava flows, eccentric... and our guide will explain how they were created, when time slowed down.
Without a doubt, you will experience a journey through time, from the formation of the earth, the life of prehistoric man to our times, because this cave was an air raid shelter during the Civil War.
Asturias is like a Gruyère cheese. Its geology, made up mostly of limestone, causes the water to dissolve the rock and a multitude of natural cavities with incredible formations are formed. This activity consists of entering one of the many caves that Asturias has with a helmet and frontal. They are wild caves where you can enjoy the spectacular underground landscape. The Cueva de Vallina located in the town of Porrúa is one of the many cavities that we can find in the council of Llanes. The singularity of this cave is that in addition to various formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, gours, columns, etc., we can easily find, which is not usual, a formation that breaks the laws of gravity, the eccentric ones.
The Vallina Cave is approximately 1 km long with hardly any unevenness. At the entrance of the cave you have to crawl about 5 meters, but then the rest of the cave can be walked. We will advance through the cave and our guide will explain all the formations carefully, how they were formed, why, their value and uniqueness, etc. It is a wild cave, that is, it is not prepared, so although it is not difficult, we will progress slowly with the help of our hands in some cases.
