The itinerary around the Alfilorios begins in the village of La Carrera (400 m.), A place that we reach through the MO-5 road coming from Argame (N-630). From there we are going to make a circular route that initially passes through Llera peak and later through Torrexón de Peñerudes. For this purpose we have to approach the MO-2 road signposted as trails GR 208 Ring of the Central Mountain and PR AS-143. On the next cruise, where a recreational area is located, we temporarily abandon the signposting that goes directly to the town of Peñanes. We continue on the asphalt until reach the inhabited nucleus of the Crossing (455 m.). Here we vary the course of the march to the left along another secondary access road to the Lavandera town (484 m.) (2,6 km., In 55 min.). We cross its urban fabric, which constitutes a great viewpoint towards Monsacro peak, and we walk along a dirt track that crosses a countryside full of meadows. After overcoming a small ski lift We are at the Corraleta cruise, where two marked trails run with two different destinations. We bypass both and go to the front. At the entrance of a meadow with an attached hut, we will take a path that skirts the same through the northern foothills. We follow their perceptible footprints until we get lost in the undergrowth, so we take the path that serves the shepherds of the area, to the meadow of La Rasa. From this situation we already contemplate the silhouette of Llera peak with the castreño vestiges of what was its defensive wall. There is also one of the power lines installed on the nearby Roces peak. We then avoid the path that appears to the right in the direction of Peñanes, and we head towards the tower by the access route.
From here, already embarked on the crest of the mountain, we have to follow the trail of a path that rises to the southeast, until it ends at the precarious and stony summit, which culminates in a vertical wall (526 m.) ( 5 km., In 2 h. And 30 min.). Llera peak is a modest Morciniega mountain that has an outstanding archaeological heritage; in addition, it is a natural balcony towards the reservoir and the surrounding landscapes. We are located in a place that was strategic in the history of Morcín, a fort that was occupied during the period from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. Apart from its history, this summit offers hikers a perfect view of the Monsacro, the Aramo and all the scenic elements of the Caudal river, with Argame, Las Segadas and even the city of Oviedo on the near horizon.
Alfilorios reservoir circular route
Back to the Crossroads (455 m.) (7 km., In 3 h.), Where several roads are distributed that give communication to the towns that surround the dam, we vary the course of the march to the right until we reach the church field. Where it is located the parish church of La Piñera, which is dedicated to San Julián (452 m.) (9 km., in 3 h. and 30 min.).
The route continues along the footprint of the G. R 208 trail, descending continuously to the bed of the Arroxines river., the dam's main power source. There, where the town of El Río and the remains of the El Golgón mill are located, another sustained lift begins that offers us good panoramic views of the reservoir and its surroundings. On our way to Peñerudes, we have to pass the village of Los Duernos, located in the middle of the green countryside, where the mowing meadows proliferate. Next and after a false plain we arrived at the village of El Campo (471 m.) (10,8 km., In 4 h. And 15 min.), Capital of the parish of Peñerudes. There we connect with the MO-5 highway in the direction of Pedroveya. We follow its route and go to the recreational area, where a monument dedicated to mountaineers stands under a steep horizon crowned by Torrexón. It is precisely here that a wide road arises that leads to the El Palacio neighborhood. We continue its course until we reach a signposted crossroads, where an arrow directs us towards the path that goes up to Torrexón (556 m) (11,7 km, in 4 h and 45 min). Through the panel installed at the top we can learn about the history of the monument, as well as the place names of the landscape elements that can be seen from there.
The Torrexón de Peñerudes (XNUMXth century), second objective of this route, dominates from a prominent place the lands of Morcín. The monument still preserves a good part of the keep of the medieval castle and remains of the wall and fortifications. It was raised as part of a defensive system for Oviedo. It is aligned with other nearby fortifications, such as the castle of Prioro and that of Alba, forming the chain of surveillance.
Back in El Campo, we follow the MO-5 road to La Carrera (400 m.) (14,7 km,. In 5 h. And 30 min.), Where we conclude this hiking event through the lands of Morcín.
