Here we share the agenda of the events organized in Cabrales to celebrate the most famous cheese competition in Asturias.
The main day is Sunday, August 30st . The event has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest . From 10:00 AM and throughout the day, in addition to the cheese competition itself, there will be exhibitions, tastings, sales of Asturian products, a parade of folk groups, and much more.
A total of 14 cheeses will compete to win the award for best Cabrales in this new edition, and will then be auctioned in the traditional auction.
Brothers Iker and Eneko Pou will be the official announcers of the 54th Cabrales Cheese Competition . The renowned Basque climbers and mountaineers will be in charge of kicking off this year's event.
Nuria Prieto Cotera, an athlete from Cabrales, has been chosen as "Xana Naranjo de Bulnes ," after the Association of Historical Climbers of Naranjo de Bulnes awarded her the "José Ángel Lucas" Young Promise Award this year.
Hortensia López Sánchez , at 79 years old, has been chosen as the Head Shepherdess of the Picos de Europa . This is a tribute to a lifetime dedicated to livestock farming and the production of Cabrales cheese.
