Municipalities of Asturias and their capitals

    Here we provide a list of all the municipalities that make up the Autonomous Community of Asturias and their capitals, which do not always correspond to the municipality's name. We also provide population data for each municipality according to the 2024 National Statistics Institute (INE), and also include the municipalities bordering each one.


    The Principality of Asturias has an area of ​​10.605,23 km² and a population of 1.005.283 inhabitants (INE 2024), which represents an average density of 94,79 inhabitants/km². However, there is a significant difference between the highest and lowest densities.

    Municipalities of Asturias and their capitals

    [1] Allande Capital: pola de allande. 1.552 inhabitants.
    It is bordered by the municipalities of Villayón to the north; Tineo to the northwest; Cangas del Narcea to the southwest; Ibias to the south; the Lugo municipalities of Negueira de Muñiz, Grandas de Salime, and Pesoz to the west; and Illano to the northwest.

    It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Mieres, to the south by the province of León, to the east by the municipalities of Laviana, Caso and Sobrescobio, and to the west by the municipality of Lena.

    [3] Amieva Capital: Sami. 599 inhabitants.
    It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Parres, to the east by Cangas de Onís, to the west by Ponga, and to the south it shares a border with the province of León.

    [4] Avilés Capital: Avilés. 75.518 inhabitants.
    It is bordered by the Cantabrian Sea and the municipalities of Gozón to the east, Corvera to the south and Castrillón and Illas to the west.

    [5] Belmote de Miranda Capital: Belmote de Miranda. 1.399 inhabitants.
    Belmonte de Miranda is bordered to the north by Salas, to the east by Grado, to the south by Somiedo and Teverga and to the west by Tineo.

    [6] Bimenes Capital: Martimporra. 1.669 inhabitants.
    It is bordered to the north by Siero and Nava, to the south by Laviana and San Martín del Rey Aurelio, to the east by Nava and to the west again by San Martín del Rey Aurelio and Siero.

    It is bordered to the north by the municipalities of El Franco and Coaña, to the south by Villanueva de Oscos and Illano, to the west by Castropol and to the east by Villayón.

    It is bordered to the north by Llanes, to the south by the provinces of Cantabria and León, to the east by Peñamellera Alta and to the west by Onís.

    It is bordered to the north by Villaviciosa, to the south by Piloña and Nava, to the east by Piloña and Villaviciosa and to the west by Villaviciosa and Nava.

    It is bordered to the east by Las Regueras, to the south by Grado, to the north by Illas, Castrillón and Soto del Barco and to the west by Pravia and Salas.

    [11] Cangas de Onís Capital: Cangas de Onis. 6.362 inhabitants.
    It is bordered to the northwest by Parres, to the southwest by Amieva, to the north by Ribadesella, to the east by Llanes and Onís, and to the south by the province of León.

    [12] Cangas del Narcea Capital: Cangas del Narcea. 11.596 inhabitants.
    It is bordered to the north by Tineo, to the south by Degaña and the León region of Laciana, to the southwest by Ibias, to the east by Somiedo, and to the northwest by Allende. It is the administrative center of the region, which includes the municipalities of Tineo, Allande, Ibias, and Degaña.
